In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the GV80 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The GV80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Genesis GV80 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Audi A6 Allroad has not been tested.

The GV80 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the A6 Allroad’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GV80 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and automatically engage the brakes. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the A6 Allroad.

The GV80’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GV80 and the A6 Allroad have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Genesis GV80 is safer than the Audi A6 Allroad:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Genesis GV80 is safer than the Audi A6 Allroad:

The Genesis GV80 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The A6 Allroad has not yet been fully evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

Warranty

The GV80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The A6 Allroad’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the A6 Allroad. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the A6 Allroad ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV80 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A6 Allroad.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 second among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The A6 Allroad isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 86 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Audi With 60 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Genesis higher than Audi.

Engine

The GV80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 369) than the A6 Allroad’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

The GV80 has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the A6 Allroad (21.1 vs. 19.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Genesis GV80 higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the Audi A6 Allroad (4). This means the GV80 produces up to 12.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the A6 Allroad every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis GV80, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A6 Allroad.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the GV80 3.5T’s brake rotors are larger than those on the A6 Allroad:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the GV80 has larger tires than the A6 Allroad (265/40R22 vs. 245/45R20).

The GV80 PRESTIGE’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A6 Allroad’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 PRESTIGE has standard 22-inch wheels. The A6 Allroad’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The GV80’s optional drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the A6 Allroad (116.3 inches vs. 115.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GV80 is 1.1 inches wider in the front and 3.1 inches wider in the rear than on the A6 Allroad.

The GV80 PRESTIGE AWD handles at .86 G’s, while the A6 Allroad Prestige pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the GV80’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the A6 Allroad’s (39.3 feet vs. 40 feet).

For greater off-road capability the GV80 has a 2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the A6 Allroad Premium Plus (8.1 vs. 6.1 inches), allowing the GV80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The GV80’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the A6 Allroad Prestige (8.1 vs. 7.3 inches).

Chassis

The front grille of the GV80 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GV80 PRESTIGE uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The GV80 offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the A6 Allroad can only carry 5.

The GV80 has 39 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A6 Allroad (140 vs. 101).

The GV80 has 1.9 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front legroom, 2.8 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear legroom and 1.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the A6 Allroad.

Towing

The GV80 has a 6000 lbs. towing capacity. The A6 Allroad has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

The GV80’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The A6 Allroad’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the GV80 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the A6 Allroad only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The GV80 ADVANCED/PRESTIGE has standard front air conditioned seats and the GV80 3.5T PRESTIGE also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The GV80 SELECT/ADVANCED/PRESTIGE has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The GV80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Genesis GV80 and the Audi A6 Allroad, based on reliability, safety and performance.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its December 2020 issue and they ranked the Genesis GV80 AWD higher than the Audi A6 Allroad Prestige.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 third among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The A6 Allroad isn’t in the top three.

The GV80 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2021. The A6 Allroad has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

The Genesis GV80 outsold the Audi A6/S6/RS 6 by almost three to one during 2024.
